All 2023 Jayman BUILT homes come standard with 10 solar panels.
Jayman BUILT is the FIRST builder in Alberta to have solar panels standard on every new home since 2019.
For over 40 years, Jayman BUILT has set the standard for new home
construction in Alberta, and we're doing it again with solar powered homes.
Every new home constructed by Jayman BUILT will include a complete energy 10-panel solar system, as a standard feature.
The Importance of Solar
Solar energy is a renewable and free source of energy that is sustainable and totally inexhaustible. It is also a non-polluting source of energy; this means that a solar-powered home does not emit any greenhouse gases when producing electricity.
Our standard Core Performance features include more than just solar. Efficient design, sustainability and industry-leading standards are at the heart of every Jayman BUILT home.

Did You Know?
The average Alberta residence uses approximately 7,800 kW hrs per year. An energy efficient home may use less than 5,000 kW hrs per year.
Since 2019, Jayman has installed over 7.6 megawatts (MW) of solar power on over 3,300 homes in Alberta and saved over 8,300 metric tonnes of carbon emissions. If these panels were in a single location as a 7.6MW solar farm, they would cover 40 acres.
How do homes with solar panels generate electricity?
1. Solar panels are installed on the roof of the home and/or garage. These photovoltaic (PV) cells convert sunlight into direct current (DC) power.
2. The inverter(s) convert DC electricity from the solar array to the AC electricity found in the home.
3. The inverter feeds electricity into the electrical distribution system.
4. The bidirectional meter keeps track of both the energy imported from the grid
and the energy exported to the grid. Savings and export credits are reflected on your electricity bill.
5. Your home with solar panels remains connected to the utility grid to supply you with electricity when you need more power than your system is producing, such as at night.
What are the benefits for homeowners with a home with solar panels?
Solar panels can save the average customer up to 50% on your electricity bill (excluding administration and other associated fees).
You will receive credit for excess energy supplied back to the grid.
Solar panels can increase the future resale value of your home.
Residential solar panels require little to no maintenance. The warranties provided
by the manufacturer include 25-year performance.
Frequently asked questions about solar powered houses.
- How is the perfomance of the unit affected by snow fall?
With a grid-connected solar PV system, the total annual energy production from the system is most important. The majority of the energy produced by a residential solar power system in Canada is produced from March to October. Lost energy production due to snow during the darker months of November to February is less important.
Solar PV systems will actually clear themselves of snow. There are a number of factors that affect when and how quickly this will happen, such as ambient temperature, amount of sunlight, angle and orientation of the solar array, colour of the solar modules as well as the quantity of snow on the modules.
- Will a house with solar panels generate energy on a cloudy day?
While solar modules generate the most electricity on clear days with abundant sunshine, your solar panels will still generate electricity on cloudy days, just not as much as on a clear day. On a cloudy day, typical solar modules can produce 10-25% of their rated capacity. Cloudy days will come and go, but what matters most is how much sunlight you get all year round, and there’s plenty of that in sunny Alberta!
- Will the residential solar panels stand up to hail?
The solar module installed and tested to withstand hail. The module’s tempered glass is rated for 2.5cm hail stones at 88 km/h.
To be on the safe side, we always advise our customers to add the solar system to their insurance policy.
- Can I sell excess electricity to any electrical retailer?
Yes! In Alberta, the Micro-Generation Regulation states that every electrical retailer must purchase your excess solar energy that’s exported back into the grid, at your current retail electricity rate.
- How long is the warranty period and lifespan of the solar PV system?
The solar PV systems for your new Jayman BUILT home include a 25-year performance warranty, 10-year warranties on the inverter, as well as a 10-year module warranty.
SkyFire handles all manufacturer warranties under the 1-year workmanship warranty. The APS inverters have a standard 10-year warranty with an option to extend this up to 20-25 years (depending on the model, not included).
Most solar PV systems will last as long as 25-30 years – many of the first solar PV systems installed more than 30 years ago are still going strong today.
